What is facial peeling and how to do it at home?

Facial peeling is a treatment that can provide hydration, cleansing and repair in the same process, making it a widely used technique that is progressively gaining more popularity. Performing it correctly is imperative to obtain good results and, for that reason, knowing more about this process can be the ideal way to take care of your face.

The face is one of the parts of the body that suffers the most from constant exposure to the outside, as it is an area that will inevitably be filled with dust, sweat and will frequently be in sunlight.

These factors, along with the constant stress that the daily routine brings, will soon begin to show on your face. For example, exposure to sunlight often causes facial blemishes, dust will make the skin dirty and can clog the pores, limiting the body’s natural perspiration and promoting the accumulation of fat; while stress and fatigue can cause wrinkles and various other imperfections resulting from tiredness.

This definitely affects facial aesthetics and if regular treatment is not done, then a homemade face scrub may no longer be effective in treating the different dermatological conditions of the face. Therefore, from time to time, it is worth having a homemade facial peel to achieve a really deep cleaning, which can make you feel like new.

What is a peel?

Facial peeling is a deep exfoliation treatment that, as its name suggests, specializes in rejuvenating facial skin. The process can be done at home with some specific elements for this process; however, the most common is that this technique is performed in specialized centers with the help of a professional.

The objective of this treatment, in addition to exfoliating the skin, is to eliminate or reduce various imperfections such as spots, wrinkles and acne.

Is there more than one type of facial peel?

The answer to this question is yes. Because not all faces are the same and need different treatments, there are different types of facial peels.

1) Mechanical peeling:

This treatment uses various tools to perform the exfoliation. Tools that can be used include sandpaper, rollers, and brushes.

2) Facial chemical peel:

This is the most common treatment, as it manages to act at different depths to perform an exfoliation more in line with what you need. Whether you do the peeling with salicylic or glycolic acid, the substance will manage to hydrate the face, regulate its tone, brighten its appearance and regulate the amount of facial fat.

3) Physical peeling:

In this case, the peeling is performed using different physical agents. One of them, for example, is the Co2 laser. The objective of this type of peeling is to take care of the imperfections of the face by reducing the thickness of the skin.

In addition to these three well-known techniques, it is possible to classify the peeling also taking into account the depth at which the treatment will be carried out. These are 3 levels: deep, medium and superficial.

The first ones are the most effective, however, the process can be annoying and, in addition, the skin will be red for several days. Meanwhile, the superficial peel manages to attack small imperfections, leaving noticeable redness for just a few hours.

How to perform a homemade chemical peel?

This is not totally recommended, because, due to its aggressiveness, it is preferable to carry out acid treatments with professionals who can determine which is the best facial serum or exfoliant for your face. In addition to following the correct application process.

However, if you already have experience in this, then it is possible to find products in the form of a mask or serum that can help you with your goal. Remember that a glycolic or salicylic acid peel is quite invasive, so you must be sure that your skin will not have counterproductive effects from its use.

Regardless of whether you use a depigmenting peel or any other type, you should always have a very clean face for the peel. This is the first step. You should remove your makeup, clean your face with warm water preferably and dry it.

If you’re using a mask, take the scrub with a makeup brush or your fingers and apply it to your face. You should do this with gentle circular massages, without rubbing the skin to avoid irritation.

On the other hand, if you use a serum, then use the pump to apply the product to key parts of your face and then spread it out. Remember to do this gently and delicately.

When finished, let the necessary time pass and remove with warm water. It is advisable to use electric water heaters so that the water has the right temperature exactly at the time you require it. If you wish, a last step can be to moisturize your skin with post-peeling creams.

The importance of a natural peel

In case you suffer from peeling skin or if it is very sensitive, it is recommended to use treatments that use natural elements, since the exfoliation of this type is deep, it is possible that the dermatological conditions worsen if you expose them to strong chemicals.

Natural peels, to avoid these problems, act more superficially and, thanks to that, it is possible to use the products more frequently. However, remember not to overdo it either. If it is not necessary, do not carry out the treatment more than once a week, to avoid overloading your face.

Products of this type, which do not have acids in their formula, can be used safely at home. Therefore, it is a good way to start taking care of your face with facials. Additionally, peelings and natural moisturizing facial serums usually have a lower cost, since they do not have very complicated ingredients in their composition.

Finally, remember that these peels are done to reduce acne and other facial imperfections. Therefore, avoid popping pimples or extracting blackheads with other tools. Most of the time, if you want to have a smooth and rejuvenated skin, it is enough to wash your face frequently, exfoliate it regularly and take care of it every time you go out.
