Trivial Pursuit A board game for the whole family

Board games can be a good option to spend quality time with family or friends without having to go out. Organizing game parties can cause some funny reactions among the participants and in this case, Trivial is to be one of the most popular alternatives.

Board games and their benefits

It has been scientifically proven that board games, depending on their type, can offer multiple health benefits, while helping to maintain specific motor functions in good condition.

For example, a classic board game that has many striking contributions is chess, since it requires players to make use of strategies and prediction of movements in order to win the game. This puts into action certain areas of the brain that are responsible for functions such as memorization, problem solving, reading ability, creativity, among others.

Likewise, thanks to the variety offered by the market, if you are not a chess fan, you have a wide range of products from which you can choose to have fun with your family or friends on any free Sunday afternoon.

If you are interested, we have a special recommendation for you from Internet users, since it seems that Hasbro’s Trivial is considered to be, possibly, one of the best quiz games of 2022 (if you click here, you have several purchase options), which is why we invite you to learn more about it.

Trivial, the quiz game for the whole family

Trivial is a quiz game that was created in 1979 by Scott Abbott and Chris Haney, later updated and improved by Ed Werner and John Haney before being patented and sold. Although in the beginning it was distributed by Selchow & Righter, known for board games like Scrabble or Parcheesi, it was later acquired by Hasbro.

Hasbro kept updating the game over time and soon there were themed versions based on all sorts of inspirations such as movies, books, etc. This gives you the possibility to purchase a special version, if you wish, so that you can enjoy an improved and more entertaining experience.

Now, the highlight of the game is how simple it is to play. As mentioned, it is a quiz game where there are a total of six categories: Entertainment, Sports and Hobbies, Science and Nature, Geography and History.

It can be played by a minimum of two players and a maximum of 20 if you have the required number of tokens on hand or have purchased a particular special version. In addition, the game can be enjoyed both individually and in teams for those who wish to form alliances.

Basically, each player or team chooses a color token that can be, in its Classic version, blue, green, orange, red, yellow or purple. This token is a container of “cheese”, pieces of various colors that you must collect as the game progresses in order to access the final question.

The way to get these “quesitos” to fill the token is by answering the questions. To do this, the team in turn must roll the dice and move their token in the preferred direction, which can vary according to the rules that have been agreed at the beginning of the game, so each one can be different and very entertaining.

Also, the game has its own board and dice so you can easily assemble it on any table and not have to deal with too many pieces to enjoy it. On the other hand, you cannot ignore the question cards, which are one of the essential elements of Trivial.

In the classic model, you will be able to enjoy a total of 494 cards that contain up to 2,950 different questions, giving you the possibility of enjoying many games before encountering a repeated card. In addition, the variety of categories adds versatility to the game, so that each participant stands out in the one that best dominates.

With this type, each game can last approximately 45 minutes, since, in order to advance to the final question, the roll of the dice must be the exact number of squares so that the token ends up in the center of the board. When they get there, the other players or teams choose a question from a category at random and if it is answered correctly, the game is won. Otherwise, the roll of the dice must be repeated until a new opportunity is obtained or another player wins.

Most common phrases at the end of a Trivial game

Given the fact that it is a question game that can be enjoyed by children, young people and adults alike, there are many occasions in which a participant can be overwhelmed by emotions and blurt out some phrases that are funny or disconcerting.. If you want to know which are the most popular among Trivial players, here they are:

  1. “You win because you get the easiest questions.”

This phrase is probably said by a player who feels that chance has been a bit unfair to him, but it should be taken with humor, since it is simply a game.

  1. “You have already studied the questions on the cards.”

One of the most said by visitors to the house, since they could ensure that, having the game at hand, it will be easy to memorize the questions to know the answers beforehand.

  1. “You haven’t said the full name.”

This usually happens when questions come out of the History or Entertainment category and it is up to the players to decide whether or not the corresponding “cheese” to be answered is delivered.

Be that as it may, make sure that each game is fun, entertaining and that no one gets angry about losing, since the purpose of a game session is to spend quality time with family or friends to vary the routine.
