1) Mussel ceviche

  • 3 cans of natural mussels
  • 1 chilli pepper
  • 1 onion
  • 2 tablespoons coriander leaves
  • the juice of 3 limes or lemons
  • Salt
  • freshly ground pepper
  • Ground ginger

Preparation: Start by cutting the onion into thin strips, which you will put in a container with a little salt, ground ginger to taste and pepper. Next, add the mussels to the container, including their juice, the juice of the limes and the minced chilli. Let this mixture rest in the refrigerator for at least half an hour and serve very cold. That easy!

2) Mussels in spicy tomato sauce

A rich sauce with mussels is another appetizer that is very popular. When preparing the recipe, we only advise you to be careful with the spiciness .


  • 1 kilo of mussels
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt
  • 1/2 onion
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 cayenne pepper
  • 3 tablespoons of fried tomato
  • a tablespoon of flour
  • a tablespoon of olive oil

Preparation: Cook the mussels with the bay leaf and salt, incorporating the molluscs when the water comes to a boil. Cook until they open and reserve a cup of the broth. 

To prepare the mussel sauce, place the oil in a deep frying pan and add the finely chopped onion and garlic. Add the fried tomato, the chilli, the mussel broth and the tablespoon of flour. Let this cook for about 5 minutes. At this point, you can remove the chilli. Crush everything in a mortar or, if you prefer, you can also use a food processor to homogenize the sauce.

Finally, you just have to add the molluscs to the mussel sauce and enjoy them. Accompany with a cold drink, to balance the flavors and relieve those who begin to sweat. 

3) Mussels with butter

The best thing about this recipe is that it will be ready in just 15 minutes and has a very attractive oriental flavor.


  • 12 large mussels
  • unsalted butter
  • curry powder to taste
  • chive

Preparation: Clean the mussels and open them. Then, place them in a saucepan, along with a little water. Cover the saucepan and allow them to cook for 5 minutes. Next, you must remove one of the caps from each of the mussels and place them on the plate in which you are going to present the recipe.

In another pan, place the butter and melt it, add the curry and stir very well until both ingredients are incorporated. Finally, bathe the mussels with the flavored butter and serve. To decorate, finely chop the chives and place it on top of the mussels.

4) Mussels with humus

To the flavor and properties of the mussels you can add the nutritional value of the chickpeas in this appetizer. 


  • 1 can of pickled mussels 
  • 1 garlic
  • 1 cup of cooked chickpeas 
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 lime
  • 1 tablespoon of tahini 
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil 
  • 2 tablespoons plain yogurt

Preparation: In a food processor add the chickpeas, the garlic and the lemon and lime juice. Blend a little and then add the oil, tahini and yogurt. You should grind this time until you achieve a fine-textured paste. To serve, simply place some of the humus on a plate, forming small mounds, on which you will put the mussels.

5) Mussels with mustard

Another rich recipe for mussels is the one we present to you below. You only need half a kilo of them to prepare a delicious gourmet appetizer . It can be frozen or fresh mussels, for greater practicality; just make sure you have them at room temperature right before you make the preparation.


  • ½ kilo of clean mussels
  • ½ glass of white wine
  • 2 tablespoons of mustard
  • 1 tablespoon of flour
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 spring onion
  • olive oil
  • Salt
  • parsley and ginger to taste

Preparation: Crush the spring onion with the garlic and ginger (just a pinch). Sauté this mixture in a saucepan with a little olive oil and then add the flour, stirring carefully. Now, pour the white wine little by little, avoiding the formation of lumps. Add the mustard and let everything boil a bit. Finally, add the mussels and let them cook for 5 minutes.   • 30 grams of cornstarch
  • 60 grams of flour
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • frozen water

Preparation: Heat oil in a deep frying pan. Meanwhile, mix the ice water with the flour, cornstarch, sugar, salt and the yolk. Next, pass the mussels through this mixture and take them to the saucepan, leaving them to fry for a few minutes. Simply serve them and accompany with your favorite mayonnaise.
