If you don’t know how to make panna cotta, you may be interested in this easy recipe taken directly from traditional Italian cuisine, specifically from the Piedmont region. Although it is a widely known dessert in Europe and other parts of the world, panna cotta as a traditional recipe has different ingredients compared to the modern version.
To make the traditional panna cotta, first you have to wash the orange very well because we will be working with the skin. In a pot we must place the cream with the 75 g of sugar, the vanilla and a pinch of salt, to finally add two strips of orange peel. It is important to heat over low heat until it smokes, without reaching the boiling point, but it is important that it is very hot. At this time it is necessary to remove it from the heat and let it rest.
While the mixture cools, it is necessary to place the egg whites in a large bowl, to mix them with a fork, but taking care not to generate foam. For the dessert to have a smooth texture, it is good to pass both the cream that has been cooling and the egg whites through a fine sieve, in order to remove any lumps. The next step is to mix the cream well with the egg whites.
Next, in a deep tray we must place 4 to 6 glasses that are resistant to high temperatures, to pour the cream that we have prepared, taking care not to fill it up so that later on we can fill it with strawberry jam. Then, you have to fill the tray with very hot water, until it reaches the same level as the cream that is in the glasses. In this way, all that remains is to take the preparation to the oven and cook for 55 minutes at a temperature of 160 °C. At the end, it is important to let it rest to take the glasses to the refrigerator.
As for the complementary sweet, you only have to clean and chop the strawberries, to put them in a pot with the water and the sugar. If you place the fire medium-high, in about 5 minutes you can obtain a syrup that you must remove from the heat and let it rest, and then take it to the refrigerator. Finally, all you have to do is mash the strawberry pieces with a fork to create a jam and place a little in each glass of panna cotta.
As we can see, it is possible to make the classic panna cotta with ingredients that we generally have at home, but it is important to follow the steps to the letter to achieve a good result in terms of texture and flavor.
