How to make tuna croquettes?

  • 1 cup of breadcrumbs
  • 2 cans of shredded tuna (preferably in water)
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup diced onion
  • 1 handful of parsley
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • oil for frying


Other ingredients:

  • 1 pinch oregano powder if desired

Next, we will indicate each of the steps you must follow to prepare this delicious recipe. It should be noted that this recipe is only for 2 people. In case you want to make it for 4 people, you must add a greater amount of ingredients.

Drain the water from the tuna

Before cooking croquettes of this type you must remove the water from the tuna. It is important that it is dry, otherwise it will be impossible to shape the croquettes properly. In this sense, we recommend that you use a strainer, as this will make this task easier and faster.

Finely chop the onion

Now, when the tuna is completely drained, place it in a large container and leave it there for a moment, since you must chop the onion into small squares. Then put oil in a frying pan and heat it up. Once hot, fry the onion until translucent.

Next, remove it from the pan and mix it with the parsley, tuna and other ingredients, including the oregano powder. You can also replace the latter with laurel or basil, according to your preferences. Of course, it is not mandatory to add these ingredients, but they can give a different touch to the recipe.

Now, beat the egg a little, so that the yolk is united with the white. Then, integrate it into the mixture, along with the other ingredients. In this way, you will be a few steps away from finishing your tuna and egg croquettes.

Another way to add the egg is to do it at the end, that is, after you make the mixture, you wet the molded filling with this ingredient. That way, the next step will be easier and more comfortable. 

Add the breadcrumbs and fry the croquettes

Until now you have already mixed all the ingredients of the filling, so you will have to separate the mixture in equal parts, for example, you can make 6 cylinders of tuna. Once done, flatten them a bit, so you will be giving the croquettes an elongated shape.

Then, cover them with the breadcrumbs, which adhere easily if you wet them with the filling with the egg. Later, place the bread-covered pieces to be fried in a pan with oil.
