Symptoms of pregnancy in the first 15 days

Although a pregnancy test and a visit to the doctor are the most accurate ways to know if you are pregnant, there are also some signs that usually appear in the first 15 days of pregnancy, which can indicate your pregnancy status, or at least suggest suspicion.

There are women who plan their pregnancy, program the conception of the baby using an ovulation test and their partner actively participates in the process with the necessary willingness to have sex on the indicated days, so they already know practically what day they got pregnant.

However, many other couples continue to conceive spontaneously and naturally, so they don’t know they’re expecting a baby until the symptoms become very noticeable.

On the other hand, if you are attentive and know your body well, you may perceive some symptoms of pregnancy in the first days, even before the absence of menstruation.

Clearly, this does not happen in all cases, since there are also many women who manage to have a pregnancy without symptoms. Now, considering all the medical literature and the common signs in a large part of the population, we are going to know when the first symptoms of pregnancy appear.

first weeks of pregnancy

A pregnancy occurs between 2 and 3 weeks after having unprotected sexual intercourse, as this is the time it takes for a fertilized egg to implant in the uterus. From that moment on, the existence of a pregnancy is considered.

Therefore, these first weeks are key to the successful implantation of the ovum and the evolution of the pregnancy. Depending on each woman and the functioning of the body, some suspicious signs may appear at this early stage.

  • The most basic: The absence of menstruation is the most common symptom to know if you are pregnant or not. It is recommended to wait up to ten days after the date your period should have started to do a test and get a true result. But, if you are very anxious and do not want to wait that long, you can buy an early detection test that has a high percentage of efficacy up to 5 days before the probable date of the beginning of the period.
  • Sensitive breasts: One of the most common symptoms of the first month of pregnancy is an increase in breast sensitivity, even greater than what can be felt during menstruation. This is due to the thickening of the areolar glands that are responsible for lubricating the breast for breastfeeding. Also, you can notice a slight darkening of the areola.
  • Desire to sleep: Many women comment on experiencing extreme tiredness in the days before they found out they were pregnant. This desire to sleep is felt from week 2 of pregnancy and can last during the first trimester. This symptom varies from one woman to another. Some feel weakness as if they were starting a viral process or had caught the flu, in short, it is a common but subjective symptom, since it can manifest itself in different ways such as tiredness, weakness, lack of energy, constant sleep.
  • Morning sickness: Feeling the dizziness of pregnancy in the first days is another known alert, as morning sickness is triggered in response to any olfactory stimulus that is unpleasant for the future mother. It is at this stage that the woman can begin to feel repulsed by the aromas and flavors that she used to like, she ends up feeling dizzy and nauseous. The discomfort does not subside until she vomits.
  • Dark bleeding: Implantation bleeding is one of the symptoms of a 2-week pregnancy that can mislead women because it makes them think that it is menstruation, so they do not believe that they may be pregnant. The difference between this bleeding and period bleeding is that it is darker in color than normal, like brown, and lasts fewer days. This occurs when the egg implants in the endometrium

Evolution of symptoms

Some women are lucky enough to experience the above symptoms during the first trimester, lessening until they almost completely disappear. However, many others begin to perceive more signs that can affect their day to day.

  • Low back pain: Pain in the lower back can be experienced in the first months of pregnancy, very similar to that of menstrual cramps . This discomfort is associated with the changes that the body undergoes to adapt to the growth of the baby.
  • Excessive salivation: This is one of the signs that causes the most discomfort in future mothers, since nausea and vomiting favor an increase in salivation , with the woman having to spit very frequently. In many cases, this symptom lasts for much of the pregnancy.
  • Oily skin: Hormonal changes at the beginning of pregnancy can determine an increase in sebum production, promoting the appearance of pimples, blackheads and acne lesions. Consequently, facial cleansing should be reinforced to control sebum production.
  • Mood swings: From the start of pregnancy, some women report feeling a roller coaster of emotions they couldn’t control. This manifests itself with greater sensitivity to cry for everyday situations, as well as sudden changes in mood. The reason for this is based on the hormonal changes that occur at this stage, triggering an imbalance in neurotransmitters and making it difficult to control one’s own emotions.

Despite our lists of symptoms, do not forget that each pregnancy is different and each woman responds differently to the signs that appear. However, most of these symptoms are common to a large part of the population, but can vary from one person to another.

Our recommendation is to keep anxiety under control, wait several days after your missed period and consult with your partner about this possibility. Surely, the two will agree to buy a pregnancy test to find out.
