Five tips to increase the coverage of your wireless phone

One of the greatest pleasures that the cordless phone offers us is the possibility of talking from anywhere in our home, as long as the coverage reaches where we need it. An aspect in which we often make the mistake of not choosing the right product, especially in those cases where it is necessary to have a wider coverage than normal due to aspects such as the thickness of the walls or the distance between the base and the terminal.

However, even if we have taken this precaution, it is possible that we will continue to have problems in this regard. The good news is that many of these problems can be solved with a little common sense, proper installation, and the little tips below. So if you want your cordless phone to maintain optimal coverage, just take a look at the ideas below.

1. Choose a correct location

When it comes to installing the best cordless phone in our house, we often have the bad habit of thinking of the simple solution, which is to connect it wherever we have a connection box within reach. Something that simplifies this installation process but has the drawback that we opt for a location that is not always as good as it should be.

Specifically, this location should be centered on our home or on those rooms where we plan to use the phone. So this is going to depend, in part, on how the house is distributed. If it has a square distribution, it will always be better to center the base on the ground floor of the house, while if it is rectangular we will have to bet on the area where we need the most coverage. By the way, mounting a box is not complicated, so if you need it you can do it comfortably.

2. Watch out for obstacles

Just like WiFi routers or repeaters, cordless phones use waves to transfer the calling signal from the base to the device. These waves travel through the air and have a variable coverage depending on the obstacles found inside. For best coverage, it is essential to have a location that is free of nearby obstacles and as open as possible.

For this reason, it is not advisable to install the cordless telephone inside a cupboard or cabinet, nor on a shelf, for example. All of these locations add artificial “walls” to the environment and properly hinder the signal transfer process. On the contrary, open locations such as those of a table, a sideboard or similar will always be preferable. And if they can be locations with a certain height to the ground, even better.

3. Interference matters

We continue talking about signals and transmissions to take a look below at everything that has to do with interference. Today we live in environments surrounded by signals of all kinds, ranging from the WiFi that the router emits to connect to the network, to the Bluetooth signal generated by the mobile, the television and all kinds of devices. Thus, maintaining adequate isolation of the telephone base is essential.

For this reason, the base should be separated from the router or the amplifier that we have for the internet, in order to prevent it from interfering with the telephone signal… and also vice versa, really. It’s also a good idea to separate the base from other products known to cause interference, such as microwaves, Bluetooth-connected devices, and the like. Anything that can generate radio waves will end up affecting the phone’s wireless coverage.

4. Use repeaters

If all the advice we have given so far does not work for you, it is possible to have some help, such as that of the repeaters. These devices have the ability to replicate the telephone signal they receive from the base, thus increasing its range and improving results when talking from anywhere in our home.

Best of all, we have two options when buying these repeaters. One of them is to have repeaters that we can buy separately, connecting as many as necessary to our installation. The other option is included in some cordless phones such as the Panasonic KX-TG6751 model, which has one of these repeaters among its accessories.

The operation of these repeaters is similar to that of a conventional WiFi amplifier, offering an efficient solution to extend the signal without complications. Thus, we only have to look for an area in which there is current coverage of the wireless telephone signal and that is close to the one we want to amplify. Once here, all you have to do is place the device, connect it to the power supply, and immediately you can begin to enjoy greater signal power in the chosen area.

5. Batteries, always charged

One of the reasons why the wireless phone loses some of its coverage also has to do with the battery of the device. As it gets closer to exhaustion, it is likely that we will begin to see the signal reduce and the sound quality as well. It is not something casual, but it has a logical explanation.

In order to function properly, the phone needs to use a minimum amount of energy for its main functions. This amount of energy marks the surplus electricity available to maintain a better coverage, the optimal one according to the characteristics of the device. However, as this energy is reduced, it is likely that the phone will limit the range or the quality of the signal, because it does not have all the energy to do it with the maximum quality.

That is why it is advisable to avoid completely depleting the battery of our wireless phone, as well as changing these batteries as we see that they lose power or charging capacity. A simple remedy to keep coverage under control.
