United States: an ideal destination for photographic trips

The United States, with its vast territory, will always be a destination that many want to enter for tourism purposes. For photographers, it can offer so much visual richness that it’s worth crossing the ocean to capture that shot you’ve always dreamed of.

One of the most attractive countries for photographers may be the United States. Due to its extensive territory, the American Union provides scenarios of any kind that can inspire the most interesting photos. From its amazing tundras with northern lights, to the incredible architecture of its modern cities, to its deserts, which can combine snowy mountains in the same shot, the United States is a destination that should not be dismissed.

Another aspect that can be very attractive is that in this country there are the most prestigious academies to study photography, such as the New York Institute of Photography, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago or the Academy of the San Francisco University of Art., so you can obtain a certificate from one of these schools to endorse your talent and open the doors to professional photography projects anywhere in the world.

In this context, it is worth mentioning that those who are interested in participating in a course lasting less than 90 days can resort to applying for a visa-free permit. For Spaniards, the ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) is an option that facilitates entry into the United States and can speed up the procedures for your trip. In the following lines, we provide you with some destinations of interest that you could visit and we will also explain what you have to do to apply for an ESTA for the United States

Places of interest to take pictures

Because the options are so many that we could not mention them all, we will divide them into two broad categories.

Scenery

Alaska is an amazing destination for nature photography. If you have had the project to capture a bear in its natural environment, this is the place you should go. Get ready to spend many hours outdoors and also get to know a little about the culture of the Eskimos.

Niagara Falls is another popular stop for photographers. If the weather allows it, you could photograph them from the many viewpoints that exist on the American side or from a boat, at the lowest level of the waterfall.

Bryce Canyon National Park offers a natural spectacle of geological formations that cannot be seen anywhere else in the world. If rocks are your thing, this can be a great place to visit.

One of the last temperate hardwood forests is the one that can be visited in the Congaree National Park. It is an untouched expanse of hardwood forest, washed by the waters of the Congaree and Wateree rivers.

New York

The Statue of Liberty will never be photographed enough to lose its charm. The iconic structure rises 93 meters and it will always be impressive to have a new shot of it. If you have more time, you can visit the Brooklyn Bridge and the Natural History Museum in New York City itself.

Washington, D.C.

You cannot visit Washington without photographing the White House and the monuments of Abraham Lincoln and George Washington. In addition, there are several places of interest such as the National Air and Space Museum or the National Gallery of Art that could provide a setting worthy of photography.

Los Angeles, CA.

Taking pictures of the Hollywood Hills sign can be your first stop before taking a stroll along the Venice Beach Boardwalk, the Santa Monica Bridge, and the most interesting sites on Route 66.

San Francisco

This city is as picturesque as it is contrasting. The places of greatest interest could be Alcatraz Island, the famous “Painted Ladies”, Lombard Street and, of course, the Golden Gate Bridge.

After this brief mention of some places to photograph, we invite you to read about the ESTA permit, which will open the door for you to visit the country.

How to process the ESTA

Spain, as we have mentioned, is one of the countries with the benefit of processing the ESTA permit. One of the greatest advantages of this document is that you do not have to go to any visa office to process it. Instead, it can be requested online through a digital form, which you must fill out with the legitimate information that will be requested. The payment, on the other hand, can be made through different financial institutions such as Mastercard, Sofort Banking and Paypal, so it is also easy.

If you wonder what the United States analyzes through this digital application, you should know that the purpose of the ESTA is to verify, through an automated system, if you are excluded from the black list of the Department of

National Security of the United States, as well as if you are an individual who does not represent any threat to the security of the American country.

The procedure, in most cases, does not take more than a day. However, there is also the option of processing it urgently, to have the resolution in less than an hour, if there are not too many requests in progress at that time.

Some of the requirements that you should keep in mind when applying for an ESTA are:

• The purpose of the trip must be tourism or business.

• Do not intend to work in the United States.

• Not have been to Libya, North Korea, Iraq, Somalia, Iran, Yemen, Sudan and/or Syria after March 11, 2011.

• Have a valid and current Spanish passport.

• Stay a maximum of 90 days in the United States.

Another practical aspect of the ESTA is that it is linked directly to the passport, so you do not have to present any physical documents when traveling. Therefore, you do not have to print anything.

How long is the ESTA valid?

This digital document is valid for 2 years from its approval. However, if your passport expires before that time, the ESTA will also expire.

Now, all you have to do is choose the destination and manage your ESTA permit to enjoy your adventure in one of the largest countries in the world.
