Musical Games

Numerous scientific studies have revealed the benefits of music for children, which is why more and more parents are interested in incorporating some games that include songs, instruments and rhythms into their children’s education, with the aim of promoting comprehensive development.
It is true that today we can find very interesting products that help the little ones in the house to develop their musical skills, but it is not always necessary to buy an educational toy (if you click here, you have several purchase options), it is also possible to use elements that we have at home to create music games for children, which are very fun, educational and do not cost much money.

musical chairs
This is the quintessential game with music for children, since it is very simple and yet provides entertainment and learning at the same time. It is especially useful at children’s parties, thanks to the fact that many children can play at the same time. It consists of placing a group of chairs in a circle, making sure that they are facing away from each other so that the children can sit down easily. The number of chairs must be less than the number of participants, for example, if there are 10 children, there must be 9 chairs. The little ones must make a circle around the chairs, dancing freely but without taking their attention off the music.. An adult must stop the song suddenly, so that the children quickly sit each on a chair, the child left standing leaves the game and a chair must be removed, so now there are 9 children and 8 chairs. In the end, there will be only two children dancing around a single chair and the one who manages to sit down will be the winner.

musical statues
In this case we will only need music to play and a space according to the number of children. We can choose children’s songs or fashionable popular music. Listening to the sounds, all participants must move to the rhythm of the song . It can also be a good excuse to work on body expression if we ask the children to invent new forms of movement at different levels; on the ground, standing or jumping. When the music stops, the participants must be frozen in the exact position in which they are, as if they were statues. Whoever moves first must leave the game.
-
rotate the microphone
To play this game, the little ones must be sitting on the floor around a microphone. Each child will have the opportunity to spin the microphone with their hand, just like in the traditional game of spin the bottle. The randomly selected participant must sing a song into the microphone or do a penance, such as dancing or telling a secret.
In this game we can use karaoke with music for children or trendy songs, but in this case the selected child must choose a song that they know. This game variant is recommended for children ages 6 and up, as they need to be able to read the lyrics of the song on the screen.

Let’s paint the music
This is a very useful game to develop imagination and creativity. An adult proposes to make a painting based on music, it can be a melody, a percussion rhythm or a song. First, the children must listen to the music and think of one or more colors, then, with the help of sheets of paper and colored pencils, the little ones must make a work inspired by the music. You will be surprised to see how much music transmits to children.
-
to move the skeleton
The only thing you need for this game is fun music for children and a group of animated little ones. An adult should ask the children to dance to the rhythm of the music but moving only one part of the body, for example, the right foot. The child who moves another zone must leave the game and wait for a new opportunity to participate. This is one of the activities for children ages 3 and up that helps them learn about and control the parts of the body. It is recommended not to be too rigid in the rules of the game with younger children and, on the contrary, to increase the demand in groups with older children.
-
let’s sing together
This is an activity that is recommended from birth, because although the newborn baby cannot sing, he does hear the voices of the parents very well. Most experts agree that mom and dad’s humming can be very stimulating for babies. In addition, they are part of the musical games for children from 2 to 3 years old, since at this age they love to imitate adults. Children can imitate the music you play at home or in the car, but if you sing too, they are more likely to imitate the words, rhythm and tones, thus favoring the musical ear from the first years of life.
-
let’s make a flute
The flute is one of the funniest musical instruments for children, but we don’t always have one at home. The good news is that we can easily make a flute and involve children in the process. To achieve this, we will only need 9 colored straws and adhesive tape. First, you have to join the straws one next to the other, taking care that they are well adjusted, for this we will use the adhesive tape. Then, all you have to do is cut all the straws at the bottom in a diagonal line, so that one is smaller than the other. And that’s it, the child can already start blowing.

That the rhythm does not stop
If you have some basic knowledge of music, you can improvise a game with musical rhythms. For this it is advisable to use a binary or quaternary compass. One of the activities to work on rhythm in children consists of imitating a sequence following the rhythm of a song. The adult makes a series of sounds with the palms and the child imitates the rhythm, sounds can also be made with the feet on the ground or by bringing the hands to the chest or thighs, as if the body were a drum. The difficulty can be increased and the sequences must be longer and more complex.
As we have seen, it is very easy to incorporate music into the activities we do with children. It is not just about entertainment, but about sharing a family project and taking advantage of the benefits that the musical resource offers to the little ones in the house.
